Long Run Recovery

Had a beautiful run w/ my running buddy this morning. A 9 mile jog is nice distance to enjoy the snow, stay on pace with training, and have good conversation. The Olentangy Trail is a great place to run for the  miles, pretty scenery, friendly joggers, and the occasional deer. That can’t be beat on a Saturday morning.

Oh wait, yes it can… try a Starbucks non-fat mocha w/ half the chocolate and a delicious turkey bacon breakfast sandwich. This, by far, is my favorite recovery treat (which also doubled as my lunch today). 9 miles doesn’t require me to consume a ton of extra calories, and this meal is the perfect addition to my day.

My mocha (12 oz., non-fat milk, no whip, 1.5 pumps of chocolate) is 130 calories. Great way for a caffeine pick-me-up after a tiring run. And the combo of protein and carbs in the chocolaty milk is a perfect recovery drink.

Let’s talk about the sandwich. “It’s made with tasty reduced-fat natural turkey bacon, reduced-fat Cheddar and an egg white patty, all served on an oven-warmed multigrain English muffin.” (excerpt fromStarbucks) Yumm!!! This sandwich weighs in at just 320 calories! Only 7 grams of fat too! 18 grams of protein! The sodium is a little bit high at 700 mg, but after a sweaty run, totally justified and necessary!

Thank you Starbucks for contributing to my happiness after a great workout 😉
