My New Kitchen Toy

For Christmas this year my longtime wish of getting a large food processor was granted. FINALLY! I am so excited to make the goodies that this machine makes so much easier like whole wheat pizza dough and breads, sliced veggies and potatoes for homemade chips, grated carrots for use in muffins and breads, dips, spreads, sauces, and my very favorite nut butter… walnut butter! The beauty of this piece of equipment is that all the pieces are machine washable… I wouldn’t have it any other way 🙂

Today I attempted 2 dishes, hummus and sun-dried tomato pesto for dinner tonight. Both are delicious!


Homemade Hummus Base (I found that this base is the perfect starter for your favorite hummus)

2, 14.5 oz cans garbanzo beans, drained and rinsed

2 garlic cloves

1/2 tsp kosher salt (more to taste)

1/4 C water

3-4 Tbl. tahini

2-4 Tbl. fresh lemon juice

1/4 C olive oil

Additional add-ins: roasted red pepper, extra garlic, cumin, paprika, jalapenos, cilantro, etc.

Directions: place beans, salt and garlic in food processor and pulse until ground and combined. scrape sides of processor and pulse again. add in water, tahini, and lemon juice and let process until smooth. add in olive oil while machine is running until you reach desired consistency. Add whichever add-ins you find tasty and pulse until smooth. Enjoy!


Bonus: Check out this recipe from Giada on Food Network. Super easy and fast! Make with 100% whole grain pasta and add tuna for a boost in the nutritional value. Serve with a salad and call it a night!
